European Researchers’ Night

Would you like to know more about algorithms and how they work? Then visit VCLA and eduLAB at the European Researchers’ Night in Vienna on September 29! We will be holding workshops (mainly) for children in the morning and early afternoon. One of the activities will be the popular sorting network race!

The sorting network works in the following way: Every participant steps on one of the orange squares (the input nodes) and receives a card with a random number on it. They then go on to the nearest sorting node (the gray circles in the picture) and compare numbers with the other person who steps on it. The person with the lower number follows the blue line, while the person with the higher number follows the red line. This process is then repeated until everyone arrives at another orange square (the output node). In this way, all the numbers will be sorted correctly in ascending order, and this works with letters (or other input) as well! Two groups of participants can perform this activity simultaneously – let’s see who wins the race. On your mark, get set, go!

The event will take place at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Vordere Zollamtsstraße 7, 1030 Vienna. There will be lots of other exciting activities as well – learn about the environment, recycling, robotics, space…  For more information, please visit: https://www.researchersnight.eu/vie
