Approximate Reasoning for Description Logics based Ontologies

The VCLA and WPI will host a talk by Jeff Z. Pan on July 14, 2014.

DATE:Monday, July 14, 2014
TIME:15:00
VENUE:Seminarroom von Neumann (Favoritenstrasse 9-11, ground floor)

ABSTRACT

The talk will begin with some example to illustrate why description logic reasoning is needed for linked data and semantic web applications. I will then further explain why approximate reasoning is need and how to perform faithful approximate reasoning, i.e, approximate reasoning with some level of quality control, by making use of tractable sub-languages in OWL 2, which is based on the SROIQ DL. I will conclude the talk with discussions on some of our relevant recent work and future steps.
